What are common building systems that use energy? This session will cover the basics of HVAC, lighting, and building envelope, and discuss how much energy each system tends to use within facilities - and how that changes across building types. Additionally, this session will cover identifying energy conservation measures (ECMs) and the process in which they are identified, funded, implemented, and verified.

Laurie Gilmer, President/COO, Facility Engineering Associates Read Bio
Laurie Gilmer is President and COO at FEA. Laurie's primary areas of expertise include facility systems assessments, energy management, sustainability, and facility management organizational analyses. She is a published author and instructor. Laurie currently serves as the Immediate Past Chair on the Global Board of Directors for the International Facility Management Association (IFMA). She also serves on the National Visiting Committee of Building Efficiency for a Sustainable Tomorrow (BEST) Center and represents IFMA in the Building Industry Decarbonization Collaborative.
Chris Jackson, FEMP Resource Efficiency Manager, Federal Energy Management Program Read Bio
Chris Jackson is a Lindahl-Reed Resource Efficiency Manager and lead instructor for the FEMP Energy & Water Treasure Hunt Program. Chris has 31 years of federal agency O&M experience which includes energy management, project management, facilities, HVAC/R and building science thermography. Additional experience includes four years of commercial sector Smart Infrastructure and Building Automations project management and facility operations experience. Chris holds a master's degree in project management, Certified Energy Manager and Project Management Professional Certifications.
Sean Pachuta, Applied Engineering, National Renewable Energy Laboratory Read Bio
Sean Pachuta has worked in the energy industry for 10 years specializing in grid-interactive efficient building technology, energy management information systems, building analytical software initiatives, and building decarbonization and sustainability efforts. Pachuta leads and supports energy optimization projects through numerous avenues including implementation of energy saving technology, technology validations, and analysis of data and automatic fault detection and diagnostics across a large portfolio of buildings. Pachuta also has previous experience in grid-connected buildings and energy engineering from working for an analytical software company and a regional energy utility.
