A Treasure Hunt is a free guided training program which assists agencies in meeting mandated energy & water reduction, decarbonization, electrification milestones per Executive Order 14057, Energy Act of 2020 and Energy Independence Act of 2007. FEMP utilizes the Train-the-Trainer concept to facilitate identification and minor adjustments to facility infrastructure assets such as building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC systems. In addition, training will be provided to accurately measure lighting levels, amperage and voltage, boiler efficiency, chiller approach, condensing water and chilled water delta, facility thermography and analysis and much more. FEMP will also work side-by-side with onsite personnel to calculate commonly used energy and water savings tools such as DOE/ FEMPS MEASUR tool. Ultimately the training received will be used to train others to complete on-going treasure hunts at additional facilities to further impact on the agency's goals. FEMP's goal is to develop an open, free avenue for continued support to help agencies strategically meet their energy efficiency and O&M goals on a long-term basis.

Chris Jackson has 29 years of DOD O&M experience which includes energy management, project management, HVAC/R, building science thermography. Additional experience includes four years of commercial sector project management and facility operations experience. Chris holds a master's degree in project management, Certified Energy Manager and Project Management Professional Certification.
Walter Firmin, Sr. Read Bio
Walter Firmin, Sr. has 23-years of federal and civilian sector Energy, Building Automations and HVAC systems and 20-years of federal work experience. Mr. Firmin has excelled across the energy efficiency spectrum by maximizing project efficiency through implementation of BAS strategies, application of effective Measure & Verification techniques and reduction of energy consumption through targeted project engagement activities. Additional experience includes significant energy performance contractor support such as program guidance, strategic planning, energy analysis and energy project management for several major energy service contractors.
Nael Nmair, Supervisor of Facility and Fleet Optimization Pillar, Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program Read Bio
Mr. Nmair is the Supervisor of the Facility and Fleet Optimization Pillar for DOE/FEMP and a registered electrical engineer with over 30 years of experience in facility design and construction. He has extensive experience in facility requirements, facility evaluations, energy and water management, and operations and maintenance (O&M). Mr. Nmair's experience includes managing projects across the globe, encompassing eight engineering offices, for the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). His project management portfolio includes a wide range of complex construction and maintenance projects for both civilian and military interests, including bridges, entire military bases, aircraft hangars, airfields, hospitals, training centers, operations, and maintenance (O&M), and border security.
