This webinar introduces FEMP's new Geothermal Heat Pump System Technical Specifications template (GHP Tech Specs). The GHP Tech Specs are a customizable template for federal government agencies seeking to procure closed-loop geothermal heat pump (GHP) systems including water-to-air and water-to-water heat pumps. This training will include an overview of GHP systems, a walkthrough of the GHP Tech Specs, and discussion of development best practices to consider for closed-loop GHP systems.

Instructors

Douglas Gagne, MBA, Project Analyst, National Renewable Energy Laboratory  

Doug Gagne is a project analyst at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He currently provides early-stage federal project development support for renewable energy and resilience projects, including techno-economic analyses to identify what mix of generation technologies will most cost-effectively meet a site's power needs. He also supports early-stage resilience project development and brings extensive federal procurement expertise.

Otto VanGeet, Principal Engineer, National Renewable Energy Laboratory  

Otto Van Geet is a Principal Engineer at NREL. He has been involved in the design, construction, and operation of energy-efficient research facilities such as laboratories and data centers, office and general use facilities, and low-energy-use campus and communities. Van Geet was one of the founding members of the Labs21 (Smart Labs) program and his experience also includes renewables screening and assessment, PV system design for on- and off-grid applications, energy audits, and minimizing energy use. Van Geet has authored many technical reports and conference papers and been recognized with many awards from professional associations, including the 2007 Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management and the 2011 GreenGov Green Innovation Presidential Award for the NREL Research Support Facility data center.

John Shonder, Business Development Manager, NORESCO  

John Shonder manages UESC program development at NORESCO. He has been involved with federal performance contracting since the early 1990s, providing assistance to a wide variety of military and civilian agencies in the development and analysis of financed energy projects. Through his support for DOE's Federal Energy Management Program, he developed formal training and guidance and performed economic analysis of all aspects of federal performance contracting. A member of ASHRAE, John has chaired numerous technical committees, including the society's Research Administration Committee. He is a co-author of ASHRAE's Guideline 14-2014, Measurement of Energy, Water and Demand Savings. He holds BS and MS degrees in engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
