HVAC Fundamentals - Pumping Systems (Part 2)

Education Type:
On-Demand
Duration:
0.5 hours
Level:
Intermediate

Here we focus on using pump curves and the affinity laws for understanding how pumping systems can be optimized. Pumping can be optimized by throttling, impeller trims, or through the application of a Variable Frequency Drive (VFD).

We also review standard pump systems configurations. Water flow is critical for thermal distribution, but it is also critical to maintain flow through plant equipment. fluids like water carry heat and cooling energy away from chillers and boilers. Inadequate flow can result in chillers freezing and boilers boiling water in their tubes and exploding. Many of our hydronic systems used decoupled pumping systems loops to maintain constant primary (plant-side) flows and variable (load-side) flows. How do they work?
