General Services Administration, Department of Energy, and private utility presenters will center the discussion on their initiatives to promote the generation of carbon pollution-free electricity (CFE) and discuss various aspects of their efforts, including successful strategies, collaborative endeavors, obstacles encountered, and opportunities influencing the trajectory of carbon-free electricity. The audience will better understand the CFE Market, policy, and regulatory landscape, learn current availability, understand roadblocks and challenges to CFE, collaborate for achieving ambitious goals, learn what future opportunities and pathways will be available, learn about technological advances, and create opportunities to drive the market forward for decarbonization.

Instructors

Tracy Niro, Program Manager, U.S. Department of Energy  

Tracy Niro is the Utility Program manager at the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Federal Energy Management Program (FEMP). Tracy is a recognized expert in energy policy, federal utility service contracting, and utility energy service contracts. She also oversees electric and natural gas utility acquisitions for DOE sites nationwide and serves as the chair of the Federal Utility Partnership Working Group. Tracy was a 2009 Presidential Management Fellow, has completed detail assignments to the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the International Energy Agency, and was awarded a Fulbright Professional Scholarship to conduct energy research in Australia. Tracy began her career as a staff accountant for an investor-owned utility and has 20 years of experience in the energy industry including past experience leading the DOE FEMP Power Purchase Agreement Program and serving as coordinator for floating offshore wind regulation in Hawaii at the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in economics from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, earned her Juris Doctor from the University of San Diego School of Law.

Wendi Fleener, Director, Clean Energy, Duke Energy  

Wendi Fleener is the Director of Clean Energy at Duke Energy. In her work, she is focused on developing, implementing, and managing programmatic ways for customers to reach their sustainability goals throughout the Duke Energy footprint. Wendi graduated from Appalachian State University with a B.S. in Business Administration and has her MBA from Queens University.

Josh Van Bogaert, Clean Energy Branch Chief, General Services Administration  

Josh Van Bogaert is the Clean Energy Branch Chief at the General Services Administration.

Susan Call, Director, Installation Clean Energy & Energy Efficiency, Department of Energy, Federal Energy Management Program  

As the Energy Data & Systems Division Director, Susan oversees the integration of energy resiliency projects at Naval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC). She has served as the Program Manager of the Renewable Energy Program Office, NAVFAC Atlantic, tasked with overall integration of renewable energy projects. She also previously served as the NAVFAC Public Works Utilities Manager overseeing Renewable Energy, Smart Grid projects, and Utilities Privatization. She has worked for both the private sector and governmental agencies.
